YJSO Preparatory String Orchestra
Director: Mrs. Kim Finnigan

YJSO Prep is an exciting new opportunity designed specifically for young string players in grades 3-6 as they prepare for York Junior Symphony and beyond. This training ensemble also offers a supportive and engaging environment where students can build their skills, gain performance experience, and become a part of a welcoming musical community.
Throughout the year, students will practice repertoire in the keys of C, G, and D major with possibly a few relative minor keys as well. Students will develop both technical ability, musical confidence, and learn practice skills and techniques to help them achieve their goals. Under the direction of Mrs. Kim Finnigan, this group will meet weekly on Friday afternoons and present two performances each academic year.
Auditions will be submitted via video link (unlisted on YouTube), on the registration form, below. Requirements are as follows:
-
Scales (D Major, G Major, C Major)
-
A prepared solo (1-3 minutes is acceptable)

Membership Requirements
Students must be in grades 3 through 6 or age 8 by September 30th. It is recommended that students have at least one year of playing before auditioning for YJSO Prep. Students in grades 5 or 6 will be placed either in YJSO or YJSO Prep based on their experience and playing level. It is further required that students study privately. All musicians must belong and be in good standing with their school orchestra/band. If no school orchestra/band exists, complete this letter of recommendation.
